Piers Morgan’s job could finally be on the line after Bill Turnbull today made a play for the host’s Good Morning Britain job.
The BBC Breakfast legend, who is fighting cancer, told his former co-host Susanna Reid ‘name the day’ when she asked if he’d be up for joining her on the panel one day.
It wouldn't be the first time they had shared a hosting job together - Susanna joined Bill as the BBC breakfast programme’s main anchor back in 2012 for two years, and today they plotted a comeback for Bill, following his emotional interview about living with incurable prostate cancer.
Bill last appeared on the BBC show alongside Louise Minchin in February 2016 before being diagnosed with the disease in November 2017.
Susanna asked her former telly partner: "We all miss you from breakfast television. What would you think about, on a day where Piers Morgan perhaps is incapacitated…?
"Why don't you come and sit next to me and present the programme?"
Bill joked about Piers being ‘sacked by the audience again’ before confirming he’d ‘love’ to join Susanna again.
Bill said: "I would love to. Name the day. I wouldn't do it full-time. It's a little bit stressful and stress is not good for the cancer.
“But every once in a while would be great.
“What are you doing tomorrow?”
As Bill and Susanna jokingly planned Piers’ exit from the ITV show, Piers - always one to have the last word, said he had a plan of his own.
“I’m entirely in favour because I’ve got a load of Victoria's Secrets models coming in to sit in for Susanna.”
Viewers on Twitter said they’d be delighted to see Bill back on the box.
One said: “Can't wait to see that Bill Turnbull on GMB with beautiful Susanna, with Piers,Charlotte. It brings back memories when myself use to watch Susanna and Bill present BBC Breakfast those many years ago.”
A second said: “It was so lovely to see Bill Turnbull on GMB looking so well and chirpy. It would be wonderful to see him on the show on one of Piers Morgan’s many days off. Him and Suzannah again. Brilliant.”
Another added: “I'd like to see that Bill turnbull presenting with Susanna Reid sometime in the future, it would bring back memories of those Breakfast days many years ago. I could see that GMB with Bill and Susanna.”
