Bill Stanfill, member of unbeaten '72 Dolphins, dies at 69

Former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Bill Stanfill, a member of the 1972 undefeated team, died Thursday at 69.

According to the The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph, Stanfill died in hospice care in Albany, Ga., after suffering a bad fall. His alma mater, the University of Georgia, issued a statement on behalf of the Stanfill family confirming his death.

Stanfill starred for the Bulldogs from 1966-68 before being drafted 11th overall by the Dolphins in 1969.

Stanfill played eight seasons for the Dolphins (1969-76), winning two Super Bowl titles, including one with the 1972 team that went 17-0.

Stanfill is third on the Dolphins' all-time leading sack list with 67{, behind only Cameron Wake (75) and Jason Taylor (131).

Prior to the 1975 season, he sustained a neck injury that would eventually end his career.

Stanfill, who was a consensus All-American and Outland Trophy winner in 1968, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. EST at First Methodist Church in Albany, where he lived since 1977.
