Bill Simmons responds to James Dolan’s accusation of trying to sabotage Knicks free agency

The drama seriously never stops in the NBA.

Just in the past 24 hours, the Knicks and Jazz have banned two fans (for very different reasons), a fight broke out in a Raptors-Cavs game and now Knicks owner James Dolan is accusing Bill Simmons of acting on the Celtics’ behalf to sabotage the Knicks’ free agency hopes.

In the NBA world, that is called a Tuesday.

Dolan did radio rounds in an attempt to fix the PR nightmare that came from his confrontation with a heckling Knicks fan. In doing so, Dolan actually continued his exercise in self sabotage.

The Knicks owner was asked about a report from Simmons that claimed Dolan was considering selling the team. Dolan responded by speculating that Simmons’ source was Celtics GM Danny Ainge who asked Simmons to plant false info to hurt the Knicks. There’s no proof of any of this.

“They know free agents want to come to us,” Dolan said of Simmons and Ainge.

Well, Simmons waited little time to point out the absurdity of Dolan’s comments.

Basically, any rumors that Dolan is looking to sell the team would improve the Knicks’ hopes of landing big-name free agents.

If Simmons and Ainge were trying to sabotage the Knicks, planting stories of Dolan’s departure wouldn’t have been the way to do it.
