Bill's restaurant building in Bristol is on the market

Mystery surrounds the future of a restaurant in Bristol after a 'to let' sign was attached to its facade.

Bill's on Queen's Road has not reopened since closing for the first national lockdown in March last year and the building is now on the market, with M&P Property Consultants overseeing the sale.

A spokesperson for Bill's would not comment on the status of the restaurant.

But Russ Power of M&P Property Consultants said: "Our client is very sorry to be losing such a good tenant, despite being entirely sympathetic and offering Bill's a generous rental concession from the start of the pandemic.

"Bill's have confirmed that they do not wish to re-open this restaurant and so we have taken the decision to offer the property to the market.

"Finding a new occupier will help Bill’s extinguish their ongoing liabilities and encouragingly, we have already received interest for a new lease."

M&P's advert for the property states: "Queen's Road is very popular with university students and young families and it boasts a strong mix of national and independent occupiers.

"The property provides a well configured, spacious and fully fitted restaurant, with customer WCs, kitchen, storage and manager’s office.

"The property is situated opposite Sainsbury's. Other occupiers in the vicinity include Wagamama, Be At One, Illy Coffee, Sweaty Betty and Space NK."

When contacted by Bristol Live, a Bill's spokesperson would not comment on the future of the Bristol restaurant.

They said: "The restaurants are going to be opening gradually, some sooner than others.

"There is no update in regard to any closures."

The property has consent for uses within Class E - defined as commercial, business and service - but the advert outlines alternative uses may be considered subject to planning consent.

It is available by way of a new full repairing and insuring lease, term of years to be agreed.

M&P invites offers "in the region of £70,000 per annum," excluding VAT, rates and all other occupational costs.

Bill's was founded by greengrocer Bill Collison in 2001 and now has around 80 restaurants to its name.

It is loved by many for its reasonably priced all-day menu of British classics. The nearest Bill's branch to Bristol is in Bath.
