Bill Quay Community Farm devastated after rare goats were stolen

Trustees at a charity farm in Gateshead are devastated after two of its rare goats were stolen from their pen.

Bagot goats Elodie and Becca were swiped from Bill Quay Community Farm in Hainingwood Terrace, Gateshead between 5am and 7am on Monday October 12. Two other goats, including Elodie's kid, were left in the pen.

Bill Quay Community Farm - which offers free access to the outdoors and animals to people in the Gateshead area - has launched an appeal to locate the female goats.

Hannah Davis, a trustee for Bill Quay Community Farm Association, said: "We have had over 500 shares on Facebook, but no one has come forward yet. They are some of the rarest goats in the UK and we are devastated that they have been stolen."

The loss of the animals is a big blow to the farm in an already difficult year.

Fellow trustee Dawn Mulvanney said: "The goats were my first real foray into farm life and I’m devastated that someone has taken them from us.

"Especially this year when the goats have been a huge help with my mental health and have provided me and other members of the local community with a little bit of joy during our daily exercise.

"As we head back towards more restrictions, they’ll be a huge miss for us and for those visiting the farm for time outside."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 9.10am on Monday we received a report two female goats had been stolen from Bill Quay farm.

"It was reported that the animals had been taken from a secure field at some point between Sunday at 7pm and Monday at 8.30am.

"Enquiries to locate the animals are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to get in touch by visiting our website and using the Tell us Something page, quoting log 184 121020."
