1) Snowboarding? This season is all about cloud-boarding.
2) This week saw the untimely death of one of the finest sport broadcasters to ever grace the small screen, RTÉ’s Bill O’Herlihy. Here he is wonderfully summing up the mood of a nation before the Republic of Ireland’s game with England at the 1990 World Cup; defending Rod Little; arguing with Liam Brady (“Do not go down that road, Bill”); laughing along with Risteard Cooper; and his emotional goodbye to TV after 49 years. Good night and God bless, Billo.
3) It’s FA Cup final weekend! It’s Aston Villa v Arsenal! Huzzah! Villa will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time since 1957 when they beat Manchester United. You can see that match in its entirety here. And here is the entire match of the last time they reached the final in 2000 and lost to a goal from Roberto Di Matteo. Arsenal, of course, are defending champions. Here are they are celebrating last year’s win; here they are winning on penalties in the 2005 final despite being outplayed for the entire game; and here is Charlie George scoring one of the greatest FA Cup final winning goals. Though he was arguably outdone by Ricky Villa and his peach of an effort 10 years after that. Speaking of Wembley. Anyone else remember the time they played GAA there?
4) Footballer Espen Hoff gets sent off. Tries to kick wall as he walks off down tunnel. Goes as badly as you know it’s going to.
5) What was Dylan Hartley thinking?
6) The best GAA goal you will see this week and the best GAA interview you will see this week.
Our favourites from last week’s blog
1) The D.O.C mixed with brilliant bike jump action. What’s not to like? Oh and if you are thinking about how it looks from the rider’s point of the view, this video has the answer.
2) Ever wondered what the hipsters’ sport of choice was? Fixed-gear football, of course.
3) 5,221 free-throws in a row!
5) Strong-arm tactics from Iran.
6) With the Western Conference finals series Game Two deep in 2OT, Andrew Shaw pops up with a contender for the greatest ice hockey goal that never counted.
