Bill O’Brien: Young Texans ‘played hard’ in 28-26 preseason loss versus Packers

The Houston Texans didn’t leave Green Bay with a W in the win-loss column, but the preseason bout was an excellent experience for young players.

The youngsters caught head coach Bill O’Brien’s eye. He said in the postgame press conference, ““I think that all of those guys, just from the sideline, until I watch the tape, but just from the sideline, everybody played hard.”

Though the Texans lost, O’Brien noted that “everybody competed.” Specifically, young players.

However, just because young players competed doesn’t mean that they all got off scot-free. O’Brien will spend time in the film room to help progress his younger roster members’ games.

Said O’Brien: “There’s obviously going to be things off of
the film that we’ll correct.” Nonetheless, O’Brien “thought the guys played hard.”

Preseason wins and losses don’t matter. It’s meaningless football in place for those younger players to develop and see NFL experience. But, it does help if they stayed competitive throughout; as if one can do so then, they should be able to when games start to account.

O’Brien agrees, telling the media, he said, “We were in the game right until the end. Guys were fighting, battling, trying to keep us in the game, and I think that’s good to see.”

Those same young players O’Brien is seeing compete will be back in Houston for Thursday’s week two preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
