Bill O’ Brien will reportedly have input on offensive staff decisions

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Bill O’Brien will have a larger role in the New England Patriots organization, including having a say in the additions the Patriots make to fill out the offensive staff.

The newly-hired offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach being involved with the hiring process could be considered “a nod from Bill Belichick that O’Brien will be running the offensive show” in the 2023 season, per Howe.

This could potentially be a big development for the Patriots offensive coaching staff. The unit will look to get back on track after a disastrous 2022 season that included dysfunction and frustration between quarterback Mac Jones and quarterbacks coach Joe Judge.

O’Brien’s heavy involvement in the offense could be a welcome change for the organization. New England interviewed several candidates for the position, and some could be on staff in a different capacity. Right now, Adrian Klemm is being considered as a strong candidate for offensive line coach.

Shifting offensive responsibilities to O’Brien could help Jones and the rest of the Patriots offense take a major leap in the 2023 season.
