Bill O’Brien still adamant Texans have to get better after 53-32 win over Falcons

The Houston Texans blew the doors off the Atlanta Falcons 53-32 Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium. For the first time in 2019, the Texans had a convincing win at their home venue and it was a nice pallet cleanser from a 16-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

However, all coach Bill O’Brien could think about was how the team needs to improve following the win.

“We’re just trying to get better,” O’Brien told reporters after the win. “Our theme is to do everything we can to try to improve every week because we believe, which I think is a fact, when it’s borne out, that the league is about improvement, like who can improve the fastest.”

At the conclusion of Week 5’s Sunday slate, the Texans improved to 3-2, but so did the Indianapolis Colts, who bested the Kansas City Chiefs 19-13 at Arrowhead Stadium to give the undefeated AFC West club their first loss of the season.

“Right now, yes, there’s undefeated teams, there’s 3-2 teams, there’s one-loss teams, there’s 0-fer teams, but right now it doesn’t matter,” said O’Brien. “It’s only the beginning of October. So, like that was a good win. I’m not taking anything away.”

Quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 426 yards and five touchdowns while posting a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Receiver Will Fuller also had a career game with 14 receptions and 217 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 17 targets.

“That’s a good football team we beat,” said O’Brien. “We played well there. We’ve got another game next week. We’ve got to get in here, try to get better and try to improve. And I really think that’s an important part of what we’re trying to do.”

In order to get better, the Texans have to stack big performances like the one in Week 5. They will have a challenge as they follow the Colts’ lead and head up to Kansas City for a Week 6 noontime showdown with the Chiefs, who are looking to get the taste of 4-1 and a poor offensive showing out of their mouths.
