April 20--Bill Murray's devotion to the Cubs runs so deep that he's willing to put the team before his family.
When Esquire magazine asked Murray to choose between Xavier University -- where his son Luke is an assistant men's basketball coach -- winning the national championship or the Cubs winning the World Series again, Murray offered a simple answer.
"Well, I have several sons, but I only have one ball club," said Murray, who grew up in Wilmette.
Murray talks about the Cubs and his firing from a Wilmette grocery store, among other topics, in the May issue of Esquire, which is slated to hit newsstands Tuesday.

Murray said he was 19 when he was fired from a Treasure Island grocery store over a misunderstanding about a comment he made to a customer.
"One of the managers said, 'What did you say to that lady?' I said, 'I have no idea, what did I say?' He said, 'I'm not even gonna say it.' I know I didn't say anything intentionally strange, but I could've said something like, 'Well, the sausage is, you know, special today' or something like that," Murray recalled.
"So I was let go, and that was too bad, because they liked me there. I was originally hired to cook chestnuts. They decided they'd like to have roasting chestnuts outside to make people feel good on the way in. People just like seeing 'em. No one wants roasted chestnuts. I still don't know how to roast a chestnut."
Murray, 65, has since found employment. He voices the bear Baloo in "The Jungle Book," which hit theaters Friday, and has a cameo in the "Ghostbusters" reboot, due out July 15.
