Bill Murray sits in audience of Stephen Colbert show then leaves suddenly

Urban legends about Bill Murray usually centre around stories of the elusive actor turning up mysteriously at parties, in engagement photos or behind bars, such as the time he walked behind a bar at SXSW and started bartending.

Murray lived up to his enigmatic reputation when he appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week, not as a guest, but as a member of the audience. Sat wearing his baseball cap with his arm across another woman, his presence was only spotted when Stephen Colbert interrupted his opening segment to ask the 65-year-old to take his shoes of the seat. A seemingly tired Murray was offered a cup of coffee by his host, which he declined, before walking off stage clutching his belongings with the woman sat next to him.

True to form, he did not return.

As well as having a habit for appearing and vanishing in the most random of places, Murray is also notoriously hard to get hold of. Read about the time he disappeared for hours during an interview with The Independent here.
