Reddit’s Ask Me Anything has brought out the best (and worst) in celebrities, from Stephen Hawking claiming women are more mystifying than physics to Ronda Rousey admitting she used to be a massive Pokemon nerd.
The latest person to wade into the huge online community is Bill Murray, whose AMA, while interesting, was also a bit perplexing.
Reddit’s system of up-voting comments and short, swift replies have helped the Q&As gain notoriety, but Murray’s long, rambling answers were confusing users, with some claiming his remarks were "lost in translation".
Murray's answers often eschewed the question entirely and ended up going off on bizarre tangents which, while entertaining, made the interview hard to follow. Here he is describing working with Wes Anderson, which manages to cover the time Murray listened to a Mariachi band in Santa Fe:
When he was on form, though, he told some impressive anecdotes, like crashing one of Andy Warhol’s parties held in an abandoned New York subway station in 1975.
“We felt like we didn't belong at all. It was so fantastic,” he said. “It was the biggest party in NYC at the time. You couldn’t get into this party.”
“I said to Andy Warhol 'I love the soup can' and he looked at me like 'You don't belong here.' What a time that was.”
He said further down in the Q&A, which was held to promote his new film, Rock the Kasbah, that the worst part about being Bill Murray was being interrupted and not being able to walk down the street by himself. But he appreciated that he had to take the good with the bad.
“It's a coin with two sides. As much as I don't like the one side, the other side is what might save me,” he admitted.
He also admitted that he once gatecrashed an MC Hammer concert in Virginia and charmed his way in by using his fame.
“We hired a bus, 55 people completely party all the way to the place get there and bouncers are like ‘Hey Bill! Aw man how many withchu’ and they put us on the side of the stage.”
So it’s not all bad, being Bill Murray.
