Bill Kenwright speaks out after 'important' step in Everton new stadium journey

Bill Kenwright has hailed an "important" step in Everton's journey for a new stadium after planning application for Bramley-Moore dock was approved.

Tuesday morning saw a special Liverpool City Council planning committee on the proposals and plans for a community-led legacy project at Goodison Park.

Both applications passed their respective votes unanimously with the panel of 11 councillors speaking very highly throughout of the detail and dedication the club had demonstrated with their presentations.

Everton CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale and stadium development director Colin Chong were both part of the club's representation at the meeting - and both spoke strongly in making their case felt.

And the pair get special thanks from Kenwright as the Blues chairman gave his immediate thoughts on the momentous news.

He said: "Whilst today is just one more step in our long journey, it is a very important one.

"Farhad and I would like to thank Denise and Colin and their dedicated team for the extraordinary hard work and commitment that has got us to today.

"We are also enormously grateful to the many organisations and tens of thousands of individuals across the city region who have given us their feedback, ideas and support along the way.

"It’s been a good week for Everton and Evertonians."

The club's plans will now be referred to the Secretary of State, Robert Jenrick, as a matter of procedure for a project this size.

That office will have an initial 21 days to decide whether the proposals will be "called in" to a higher level of Government scrutiny.

Although that process could potentially take longer with an application of this scale.
