NEW YORK _ New York Mayor Bill de Blasio finally dropped out of the 2020 race on Friday after his quixotic campaign for president failed to gain traction in four months.
"I feel like I have contributed all I can to this primary election," de Blasio said during an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "It's clearly not my time, so I'm going to end my presidential campaign."
The mayor announced his bid for the White House on May 16.
He said he would continue to speak up for working people, a cornerstone of his campaign platform.
De Blasio's consistently polled around zero to 1%.
When he didn't make the September primary debates _ failing to meet polling or fundraising thresholds to get on the stage _ the mayor suggested he would drop out of the race early next month.
