Bill Cosby's bid for a new trial rejected by judge

Shamed star Bill Cosby has had his appeal for a new trial or sentencing rejected by a judge after an “exhaustive review” of post-trial motions.

The former Cosby Show actor is currently serving a three to 10-year state prison term after a jury found he had drugged and sexually assaulted a woman in 2004.

Cosby’s defence would like to see the 81-year-old released on bail while he appeals over alleged trial errors.

Following his bid being rejected, Cosby’s wife, Camille Cosby, accused the judge of bias against her husband.

The judge's ruling led Cosby's lawyers to file their appeal with the state Superior Court, the next step in trying to reverse his felony sex assault conviction.

In a statement, Camille Cosby again insisted Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill should have stepped down because his wife has advocated for sex assault victims.

Judge O'Neill has said that has no bearing on his work.
