Bill Cooper has become the third player to depart the Cork hurling squad, following Eoin Cadogan and Colm Spillane’s decisions to retire.
Cooper, who turns 34 next week, was known as a whole hearted midfielder over his decade long Cork career.
Making his debut in 2011, Cooper went on to win three Munster SHC titles with his county in 2014, 2018 and 2019.
Cooper was absent through injury for the 2013 and 2021 All-Ireland final defeats against Clare and Limerick respectively, and his last appearance in a Cork jersey came in May's Allianz League win over Westmeath.
Cooper said: "I told Kieran (Kingston, Cork manager) that I wouldn't be available next year, I wouldn’t be in a position to give the commitment.
"It’s a tough decision to make in one way, but when it’s the right decision it’s not that hard."
"A highlight would be the 2014 Munster hurling final in the old Páirc, the last game that was played there.
"The place was rocking and the result went our way as well, winning the game.
"I gave everything I had any time I played for Cork and tried to get the most out of myself every time I wore the jersey."
The Youghal man, who won three Munster medals, plans to continue hurling with his club and divisional side, Imokilly.
