Bill Callahan still hopes Trent Williams will play for Redskins again

Washington Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan is one of the outward-facing representatives of the team right now, which means he has to field seemingly endless questions on the Trent Williams front.

That front went through some interesting stages Wednesday, with Williams failing his physical over helmet discomfort.

Callahan, though, still wants to see things work out. Of Williams, he said his “heart is in the right place” according to ESPN’s John Keim.

What else is the head coach supposed to say at this point? Most any team would hope one of the best left tackles in football will return at some point. Callahan is clearly speaking on a personal slant too, but as head coach, he’s tasked with helping bring along Dwayne Haskins too.

It still feels like the Redskins and Williams are at an impossible impasse. But Callahan isn’t shying away from the topic when it comes up.
