Bill Callahan singles out Ryan Anderson with praise

Bill Callahan, despite the circumstances surrounding his Washington Redskins, isn’t shy about praising his players who deserve it.

And Ryan Anderson is one of those guys.

So says Callahan, who likes what he’s seen from the veteran off the edge, per Jacob Steinberg of Redskins.com:

“I think [LB] Ryan [Anderson] has done deservedly well in terms of how he fits the run and the type of pass rusher that he is. He presents a lot of power coming off the edge, so we’re fortunate that we have two skilled athletes like Montez [Sweat] and Ryan; one that has length, has speed, quickness and the other that has the change up to play more speed to power and be more of a presence in terms of pressurizing the pocket or condensing the pocket.”

Anderson, who cleaned up his off-field prep this offseason and called this year “do or die” doesn’t have a sack yet. But he has put up three hurries, two quarterback knockdowns and five pressures while also allowing a 57.1 completion percentage when targeted.

A second-round pick in 2017, Anderson has always been right to feel the pressure more this season because next year is his last under contract in Washington. He’s been asked to take on a bigger role while helping along a rookie like Montez Sweat.

While the overall team results aren’t there, coaches seem to like Anderson’s pace so far at the halfway point.
