Bill Callahan says Alex Smith has been a big asset during his rehab

Recently, Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith was spotted throwing on a practice field near the team.

But Smith has been a constant on the sidelines and with the team since training camp despite his complicated comeback bid from injury.

Monday, interim coach Bill Callahan provided some insight into the situation, per JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington: “Asked about Alex Smith, Callahan said the Redskins QB has provided the coaching staff with some insight during his rehab time. ‘I’ve never seen anything like the effort to his rehab that he’s pouring in.’”

It’s always fun to hear a bit of insight into Smith’s situation given the gargantuan task in front of him as far as his recovery goes.

And the help from Smith has assuredly been invaluable in helping a new veteran arrival like Case Keenum get accustomed to things in town. That point even more so applies to rookie passer Dwayne Haskins.

If nothing else, Smith has played a clear role in whatever successes the offense has had and will for the rest of the season.
