Bill Callahan explains why Josh Norman is active but not playing

It isn’t a surprise to see the Washington Redskins push aside veteran corner Josh Norman.

What has been a surprise, though, is making Norman active at all.

This happened during last week’s game, as the Redskins and interim coach Bill Callahan continued the youth movement in the secondary. Norman was active but didn’t play a single snap. Before that game, he had only seen notable work on special teams.

So it is worth asking — why have Norman active at all? He’s depth, but with the games pointless from a win-loss perspective, why not have someone active elsewhere while he doesn’t dress?

Reporters asked that question Wednesday:

Asked Callahan about Norman because things are weird. Zero snaps on D or ST Sunday despite injuries. Why keep him active? Callahan: “He’s still in a role where he could potentially play.”

BC later said they want to look at other guys. Fine, but then make JNo inactive,right?

If nothing else, it’s about game plan:

Callahan says there still packages where Josh Norman could get involved. Those weren’t in for GB, but he could see action moving forward. Has told him to stay ready.

If Norman doesn’t see a ton of usage again over the weekend while serving in an active role, the questions will only continue to flow.
