Bill Callahan brings back first team vs. first team to Redskins practices

The first-team offense playing against the first-team defense is back on the menu for the Washington Redskins in practices.

Thank interim coach Bill Callahan, who has done a few different things to adjust the culture right out of the gates this week.

Oen of those includes the first-team details, per Kareem Copeland of the Washinton Post: “Bill Callahan has brought back periods of first team offense vs first team defense. Says there’s value in a heightened competitive period on a daily basis.”

Callahan has generally placed a bigger emphasis on accountability and has thrown captains under bigger spotlights. Gassers after practice, too.

This new detail about first teams is a bit old school but the philosophy varies on a team-by-team basis. Presumably, the Redskins can’t be any more injured than they have been over the past few years so amping up practices isn’t a terrible idea.

Fans might not have a good idea as to whether this is working considering Miami is the opponent this week, but it should be interesting to see it unfold the rest of the season.
