Bill Belichick mum on Josh Gordon: ‘We have no control’

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick reminded the media that Josh Gordon’s situation is out of his hands. For the second time since the beginning of training camp, Belichick fielded questions about Gordon, who is serving an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL’s drug policy.

Belichick was asked whether he has any updates on the receiver.

“We don’t have anything to do with Josh Gordon,” Belichick said on Thursday during a press conference at Gillette Stadium. “He’s suspended. You need to talk to the league. We have no control over Josh Gordon.”

The league has declined to comment. Gordon also doesn’t seem to have an agent, as he parted ways with his representation last year.

However, Belichick and the Patriots have quite a bit to do with Gordon. New England signed Gordon to a one-year deal in restricted free agency this offseason. If he does return from suspension, he’ll rejoin the Patriots. Gordon and Tom Brady also spent time working out at the quarterback’s house in Massachusetts this offseason.

“There weren’t many opportunities, but he was around and I needed someone to catch,” Brady said Wednesday when asked about his workout with Gordon. “I’ve always enjoyed playing with him and obviously hope everything works out for him. I’m hoping the best, certainly.”

Gordon finished the 2018 season with 13 games played, 40 receptions, 720 yards and three touchdowns. However, the league put him back on suspension near the end of the season, as he violated the terms of his reinstatement. It’s unclear when or if Gordon will apply for another reinstatement.
