Bill Bailey wins Strictly Come Dancing - and he's the oldest celeb to take crown

Bill Bailey has been crowned this year’s winner of Strictly Come Dancing following a tense final night.

The comedian, and his professional dance partner Oti Mabuse, won the 2020 series of the hit BBC programme by popular public vote this evening.

Saturday’s show saw the pair come up against HRVY and Janette Manrara, Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, and Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez in the final night of dancing.

The judges and former contestants of the show found it too close to call after each of the pairs danced to three routines.

Bill and Oti, who were firm favourites to be crowned champion before the show, came out on top after it was taken to a public vote.

HRVY had topped the leaderboard three times, which was more than anyone else, while Jamie survived the most dance offs in Strictly history, joint with singer Jamelia in 2015, with four.

Scots contestant JJ Chalmers was among the eliminated contestants to perform a spectacular group number on the night.

Nicola Adams, Clara Amfo, Ranvir Singh, Max George, Jason Bell, Jacqui Smith and Caroline Quentin all took to the stage one last time.

Bill, 55, is the oldest contestant to lift the coveted giltterball trophy.

Speaking after his win, he said: “It feels surreal, it feels extraordinary, it feels wonderful. I never thought that we would get this far.”
