Bill Bailey says Strictly Come Dancing Win was a 'little bit of an anticlimax'

Bill Bailey has revealed his Strictly Come Dancing win wasn't everything he'd hoped for last year.

Aged 55 at the time, Bill was the show's oldest winner, but said celebrating his success just before lockdown was a "little bit of an anticlimax'.

Speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio X Bill, who won the show with his dance partner Oti Mabuse, said: "We never really had a bit of a ‘waheeeey’.

"We went into lockdown about an hour after we did the live broadcast. And also I’ve got to say, it was a little bit of a kind-of anti-climax afterwards."

Bill went onto explain that he didn't even get a chance to hang onto the glitterball trophy.

He said: "We win, and we get the big trophy and [cheers] and all the glitter and confetti’s going off... and a bloke came up to me from the production and asked for the trophy back."

The stand-up comic said the trophy was taken off him before being "put in a bin bag" after which everyone was told to 'get out'.

Bill battled it out against Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, and singer Hrvy to waltz off, albeit temporarily, with the Strictly trophy.

Strictly Come Dancing fans were delighted by Bill and Oti Mabuse reuniting on the dancefloor in September.

The pair once again performed a Street/Commercial routine to Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang.

And it seems like the comedian hadn't lost his touch as one fan wrote:"Strictly legendary status for this dance. Bill is a dancing machine! #Strictly ".

Bill told Chris that he was looking forward to the end of this year's series so he could "crash" the after party because he never had one.

The comedian also said he wouldn't have done the show if the pandemic hadn't forced him to cancel his stand-up shows.

The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star became somewhat of a household name during his time on Strictly and viewers couldn't get enough of him.

However, what many Strictly fans didn't know was that Bill's name actually isn't Bill.

The funnyman was named Mark by his parents, but changed it way before finding fame.

Speaking previously on Desert Island Discs, Bill explained: "I ended up as Bill because I had a geography teacher at school who decided this was my nickname.

"It was because of the song, the classic Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey."

The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, is on weekdays from 6:30am – 10am and Saturdays 8am – 11am.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday.
