Bill Bailey’s heartbreak as dad will be alone at Christmas after isolating since March

Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey appeared on Lorraine on Monday where he spoke to Ranvir Singh, who was standing in for Lorraine Kelly.

Both Ranvir and Bill competed on the 2020 series, with Ranvir and partner Giovanni Pernice getting the axe in the semi-finals.

Bill and his partner Oti Mabuse won the Glitterball trophy on Saturday, making Bill the oldest ever winner of the show, and marking Oti's second win in a row.

But after the recent announcement that Christmas restrictions must toughen up, Bill revealed the heartbreaking news that his father will spend Christmas alone after isolating since March.

"So there was a lot of that going on as well.

He also said winning the show would have been his late mother's proudest ever moment, as she so loved ballroom.

"It was quite emotional anyway as it was going to be the last time we were dancing," he said.

"But it did make me think of my mum, firstly, because my mum died 15 years ago and I did think about her a lot on the day.

"She loved ballroom dancing. In fact, she wanted me to take it up when I was a kid.

"She got me to take a couple of lessons when I was a teenager but of course, I was a teenager and I thought, 'I don’t want to do ballroom dancing'.

"But I know she would have been so proud. This would have been her proudest moment."
