Bilingual investigative journalism outlet launched in Florida

A $100,000 (£65,000) grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation is being used to launch what is regarded as the first non-profit, digital and bilingual investigative journalism organisation in the United States.

The Florida Centre for Investigative Reporting (FCIR), based at Florida International University, is aiming to focus on "exposing corruption, waste and miscarriages of justice." It's expected to begin publishing stories later this year.

Its key participants include Sharon Rosenhause, the retired managing editor of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, who is president of FCIR's board of directors. Mc Nelly Torres and Trevor Aaronson are to serve as the associate directors.
