Bilfinger expands pharma footprint in Scotland with £12.5 million GSK contract

Engineering and services provider Bilfinger UK has secured a £12.5m project and maintenance contract with pharmaceutical company GSK.

Bilfinger will support the ongoing development and maintenance of its production facilities at Montrose where GSK manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients for HIV, respiratory and corticosteroid medical products.

The three-year contract, which has an option for a further two-year extension, will be delivered under Bilfinger’s Engineering & Maintenance service line and will be supported from its new regional office in Falkirk.

The contract will commence at the end of July and will involve employment of over 40 personnel.

The agreement will see Bilfinger UK, which employs 2,500 people, provide electrical and instrumentation installation and access, insulation and painting services for the project and maintenance requirements of the Montrose site.

Phill Maurer, managing director at Bilfinger UK, said: “The pharmaceutical sector is a strategic growth area for our business and the award of this major contract with one of the market’s global leaders represents a significant milestone.

“We look forward to working with GSK to deliver projects and maintenance services across its facilities in Montrose as we continue on our growth journey in Scotland.”
