Athletic Bilbao defender Yeray Alvarez has been issued a 10-month UEFA doping ban.
The 30-year-old failed an anti-doping check after a Europa League match against Manchester United in May.
The La Liga side faced United in the semi-final of the competition after beating Rangers in the quarter-final stage. Alvarez played in both matches against Rangers.
After the first-leg against the Premier League giants, the presence of Canrenone was found in Alvarez's sample.
The defender was banned for 10 months as a result of the banned substance being reported following lab analysis.
Alvarez accepted the banning order and explained he did not intentionally break rules; rather that the substance was found in an anti-hair loss treatment he had been using.
The player had been using the medicine after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016. UEFA ruled the breach as a "non-intentional anti-doping rule violation".
He will be allowed to return to action on April 2, with a return to training two months earlier.
