Bikie boss Toby Mitchell has been granted bail after allegedly punching another man at a Melbourne cafe.
The president of the Mongols Melbourne chapter is charged with assaulting the man at Gilson South Yarra on October 4.
It's alleged Mitchell punched the man three times to the ground, leaving him with a possible facial fracture.
The 45-year-old bikie was granted bail in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday, on charges of affray, intentionally causing injury and assault.
Mitchell's lawyer Damian Sheales accused police of grandstanding over "the most minor incident in the world".
The bikie boss didn't even strike the man enough for him to lose the drink he was holding, according to Mr Sheales.
"We're a bit mystified as to why he was not bailed at the police station," the lawyer said.
Mitchell's alleged victim described himself as an associate of the Mongols president and did not provide a statement to police out of fear, Constable Lauren Kane told the court.
Before his arrest, Mitchell called police to ask why they were investigating him, Const Kane also said.
She wanted him kept behind bars because she feared he posed a danger to others and risked interfering with witnesses.
But Mitchell was granted bail on the condition he not leave Victoria, and not attend Gilson cafe or associate with other Mongols bikies.
