Bikes stolen from NHS staff outside Edinburgh hospital recovered by police

A number of missing bikes believed to have been stolen from NHS workers outside the Capital’s largest hospital have been recovered, Police Scotland has announced.

Officers started enquiries over three thefts from a rank in front of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following a slew of posts from health service staff on social media.

Dozens of NHS workers have reported their cycles stolen since the coronavirus lockdown was introduced, with some being left with no transport option to reach work.

At least two of the bikes recovered by officers have been damaged, with one missing a wheel.

Police have encouraged the owners of the bikes to get in touch.

A tweet posted on the Edinburgh Police account read: “On 19/05/20 our Violence Reduction Officers were conducting enquiries into the theft of pedal cycles from the @RIE_Lothian @NHS_Lothian.

"3 pedal cycles believed to be stolen have been recovered. If you think any of these belong to you, call 101 quoting inc 678 of 20/05/2020.”
