Biker stopped by police doing double the speed limit on East Lothian road

A speeding biker has been stopped by police doing more than double the limit.

East Lothian cops stopped the biker during a hand held speed check after residents complained of speeding motorists on quiet lockdown roads in their area.

Officers were carrying out speed checks in a 30mph zone on Monday when the biker blasted past doing 72mph.

The 35-year-old was pulled over by police at the speed trap on the A199 Edinburgh Road, Tranent

In a statement on social media East Lothian Police said: “In response to complaints made by members of the public in relation to speeding traffic in and around Tranent, local officers are continuing to conduct speed checks in the area."

They added: “Road Policing officers carried out a hand held speed check on the A199 Edinburgh Road, Tranent. During this check they captured a motorbike travelling at 72mph in the 30mph zone.

“The 35 year old male rider was charged with the relevant Road Traffic legislation and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
