The 52-year-old biker's black Yamaha, riding north on the A737 and a grey Mini Cooper travelling east on Head Street, crashed.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

The woman driver of the car was unhurt.

The road was closed for around two-and-a-half hours as police launched an investigation and the vehicles removed.

Sergeant Ian Thornton of Ayrshire Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the crash to get in touch.

“We are also asking anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash or anyone with dashcam footage or any other information which may assist to come forward.”
