Biker seriously injured and driver hurt after horror A90 van smash which sparked 10 hour road closure

A motorcyclist has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being involved in a horror smash with a van on the A90.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire, at around 2.10pm on Friday, July 2.

A BMW R NineT motorbike and a white Fiat Fiorino van crashed on the northbound carriageway at the junction with the A937.

Police and paramedics attended before the 46-year-old biker was taken to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The van driver, a 53-year-old, also suffered minor injuries and required medical treatment.

The road was closed for around 10 hours to allow for a full accident investigation to take place.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Craig McNeill, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “A man has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are appealing for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“I would ask if you were driving in the area at the time and may have seen the van or the motorbike prior to the crash that you come forward and speak to officers.

“If there are any motorists with dashcam footage that were in the area around that time, please get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information can contact police via 101, quoting incident number 1879 of 2 July.
