Biker dies in crash with lorry on Scots road as cops appeal for witnesses

A biker has died following a crash with a lorry on a road in Argyll.

Emergency services were called to attend the scene of the fatal collision on the A85 half a mile west of Dalmally, around 20 miles east of Oban. The rider of the black Yamaha motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene; his name has not been released by police.

The other vehicle involved in the smash, reported to have occurred at around 2.30pm on Wednesday May 24, was a Volvo lorry. Road policing cops closed the road for around six hours to carry out a full investigation, lifting the cordon at around 9pm.

Officers have now launched an appeal for information in order to establish the full circumstances of the crash. They have asked anyone who may have seen either vehicle in the run-up to the crash, or those who may have dashcam footage around the time and location of the incident, to get in touch.

Sergeant Archie McGuire, of Police Scotland's Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing. I am appealing for anyone who saw either vehicle, and who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.” Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 2070 of 24 May, 2023.
