Motorcyclist dies and four children involved in Portbury Hundred crash which has closed road near M5 for 7 hours

Police are appealing for witnesses and have confirmed a motorcyclist has died in a crash in North Somerset today (October 27).

Emergency services were called to the A369 Portbury Hundred, near Portishead, shortly after 9.30am.

The motorcyclist died shortly after receiving treatment at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries and four children who were also in the car were unharmed.

The road, which is just off junction 19 of the M5, has been closed since and is likely to remain closed for some time. You can follow the latest traffic updates here.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “The motorcyclist – a man - sustained serious injuries and received treatment at the scene but sadly died shortly afterwards.

“The male driver of the car was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries including a wrist injury and bruising.

“Four children who were also in the car were not injured.”

The road remains closed to allow collision investigators to carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

Police say the road is likely to remain closed until this evening and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid using the A369 between J19 of the M5 and the Wyndham Way roundabout.

Witness appeal

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision who may have information to help enquiries.

They would particularly like to hear from anyone with dash cam footage of the incident.
Anyone able to help is asked to contact police quoting reference 5219248636.
