Biker, 28, airlifted to hospital after Irvine crash as police launch appeal

A motorcyclist involved in a serious crash in North Ayrshire had to be airlifted to hospital.

The 28-year-old came off his Black Suzuki GSXR 600 around 6.20pm on Monday night.

The accident happened on the B7080 slip road eastbound towards Long Drive, shortly after the exit from the Eglington Interchange roundabout, at Irvine.

The biker was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medics describe his condition as serious but stable.

Today, police said he came off the road for an "unknown reason" and collided with crash barriers.

As an information appeal was launched, officers are looking to trace the driver of a blue car who it is understood may have seen the motorbike just before the crash.

Sergeant Paul Hughes of the road policing unit said: “As our investigations continue into what happened, I’m particularly keen to hear from the driver of a blue car who may have seen the motorbike pass them just before the crash.

"There were two motorcycles riding together, the Black Suzuki GSXR 600 which was involved in the collision, followed by a friend on a Blue Suzuki GSX S.

“I’d also urge anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. Drivers in the area around that time on Monday with dash-cam footage, please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency 101 number quoting reference 2957 of 27 March, 2023.
