Bike worth £1000 up for grabs in Rutherglen

A community project is trying to help Rutherglen locals make a positive lifestyle change – by giving them the chance to win a state-of-the-art folding bike worth £1000.

Biketown, part of Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, have launched a new campaign ‘Feel Good, Go Walking & Cycling.’

They are inviting the community to switch regular, short driving journeys to walking and cycling – a great way to improve overall health and wellbeing, as well as benefitting the environment.

All participants need to do is set themselves a weekly target by switching one or more short driving journeys to walking or cycling.

They should then record their switched journeys online or offline and submit to Biketown, to be in with a chance to win a folding, lightweight e-bike.

Walking or cycling approximately two miles every day for a week saves 36kg of CO2 emissions per year – that’s the equivalent of two trees – and can improve health and wellbeing and help you save money on fuel.

Jim Ewing, senior team leader at Biketown, said: “We’d love to see the community in action, so they can post photos or videos on social media and tag us @camglenbiketown, using #feelgoodwalkcycle or email us at feelgood@biketown.org.uk.

“Full information is on our website www.biketown.org.uk.”

The campaign runs until March 13, and terms and conditions apply.

The winner will be picked at random and must live or work in G72 or G73.

Biketown can provide support by offering a range of bikes or e-bikes, with a free take-home trial for up to one month.

They also offer a course of free cycling lessons for beginners or those returning to cycling to help build confidence.

In addition, they have a range of adult and children’s new and reconditioned bikes for sale.

To find out more, visit Biketown at 5 Thomson Court, Rutherglen, G73 2RR, or call into their pop-up shop until the end of this month at Unit 25, Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre.
