A European bike-hire giant is to join the capital’s cycling revolution by offering Londoners a monthly bicycle rental subscription.

Dutch firm Swapfiets, which translates as “swap bike”, will even replace the bicycle it if it is stolen or badly damaged. Repairs will also be made within 48 hours, the company claims.

Londoners can rent a basic bike, with the company’s distinctive blue front tyre, from £13 a month, with prices going up to £75 for electric cycles.

It already rents bikes to more than 220,000 people across nine European countries.

London will be the first UK city to try the services later this year and the company said it wants to encourage more people to cycle as workers return to offices.
