Bihar: Woman lynched, seven houses torched in Siwan

PATNA: A woman was allegedly lynched while three persons were badly scorched as a local mob torched seven houses in Lerua village under Maharajganj police station area in Siwan district on Saturday morning following protest over the murder of 20-year-old Sagar Sah, son of Sanjay Sah, of the same village Friday night.

According to police, Sagar was allegedly killed by unidentified armed miscreants when he was returning home with his friend on a bike around 10pm on Friday after attending a marriage ceremony at Ghaziyapur in Saran.

Heavy police deployment at Lerua

H e saw a woman being robbed by the thieves near Balaun brick kiln. When Sagar and his friend resisted the loot bid, the miscreants fired 2-3 rounds and escaped. Hearing the gunshot, the villagers rushed to the spot and took Sagar and his friend Prince Kumar (20), son of Shrikant Prasad, to the Maharajganj hospital. The doctors there declared Sagar brought dead. Prince received gunshot injuries in the waist.

Maharajganj SDPO (incharge) Baleshwar Rai said the relatives of the deceased and the locals torched seven houses of the village on Saturday morning, blaming them for the murder of Sagar. “A 32-year-old Sanju Devi, wife of Firoze Nut, who was resisting the arson, was lynched by the angry mob. Three persons also received burn injuries during the arson.

They have been identified as Golu Kumar, Sheebu Kumar and Ruksana. All of them were admitted to the Sadar Hospital for treatment,” he said.

“Heavy police deployment has been made to maintain law and order in the Lerua village. The police have been investigating the violence. The accused aree absconding. We are waiting for the written complaint from the family members of the deceased,” Rai told TOI.
