DARBHANGA: Two members of a family — Pinki Jha (32) who had been pregnant and her brother Sanjay Jha (30) — who were set on fire in their house by miscreants led by Shiv Kumar Jha due to land dispute in the district headquarters town of Darbhanga in Bihar five days ago succumbed to their injuries at a Patna-based hospital on Tuesday.
Sanjay’s house was demolished using an earthmover machine and while three members of the family had been set ablaze.
Their younger sister Nikki was partially burnt.
Police arrested eight accused with the help of video footage on Sunday.
Nikki had lodged an FIR in the town police station after the incident.
However, the only named prime accused Shiv Kumar Jha is still evading his arrest.
Darbhanga senior superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Prasad confirmed the two deaths on Tuesday and said that their cremation also took place in Patna on Tuesday.
Town police station SHO Rakesh Singh has been suspended due to his negligence and a new station house officer, Sashi Kant, has been posted there, the SSP said, adding that raid is being conducted to nab Shiv Kumar, who belongs to a village in Madhubani near Indo Nepal border.
Police will move the court to acquire permission for attachment of his property.
