PATNA: Patna and several other districts received light to moderate rainfall on Friday even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that showers would continue in the state till August 2.
The Patna Meteorological Centre, in its forecast issued on Friday, stated that rain would occur at many places in north Bihar and few places in southern parts of the state on Saturday.
The intensity and distribution of rain are likely to increase from Sunday at most places in the state.
The expected enhanced rainfall activity has been mainly attributed to favourable position of the monsoon trough line.
According to the IMD, the monsoon trough line is likely to be north of its normal position over the next four-five days. Bihar receives good rainfall when the monsoon trough line is either at its normal position or further north.
Private weather agency Skymet also reported on Friday that conditions were favourable for widespread rain in Bihar on Saturday and Sunday.
It said light to moderate showers with isolated heavy spells may be seen in many parts of the state.
If the showers occur as expected, it can help in the much-needed recovery of shortage of monsoon rainfall in the state. Monsoon rainfall has remained scanty in Bihar so far this year.
The state has received 287.4mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 29 against the normal average of 485.4mm during the same period, making it 41% below expected normal.
