Bihar: RJD worker shot dead over poll rivalry in Vaishali

PATNA: A day after the declaration of legislative council poll results for 24 seats, an RJD worker was killed in Raghopur assembly constituency area in Vaishali district on Friday. Incidentally, Raghopur is the assembly constituency of RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and the RJD candidate lost the council election for Vaishali seat to Union minister Pashupati Kumar Paras-led RLJP.

The deceased, identified as Rajiv Ranjan in his 30s, was shot in the chest near his house at Naya Tola in Paharpur Paschim under Jurawanpur police station area at around 9am. He was rushed to a primary health centre and then to the NMCH in Patna, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Sources said Ranjan had a verbal duel with his neighbour Bindu Rai soon after the result for the Vaisahali Vidhan Parishad seat was declared.

Bindu’s mother is a ward member and Ranjan had accused them of treachery. Ranjan’s family members, in the statement to the police, have accused Bindu.

Jurawanpur police station SHO Rakesh Mohan said security personnel had been deployed in the area and the situation was under control. Mohan said Bindu also had a clash with Ranjan’s brother on a farmland earlier in the day.

RJD’s Subodh Kumar alias Subodh Rai was the MLC from this seat, but lost to Bhushan Rai this time.
