Bihar Museum to set up a conservation lab at cost of Rs 2 crore

PATNA: The Patna-based Bihar Museum has decided to set up a conservation lab in its premises at a cost of around Rs two crore to preserve its valuable artefacts and relics.

Ms Lilly Pandeya, joint secretary, Union ministry of culture-cum-vice chancellor, National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology, and Anjani Kumar Singh, the director general of Bihar Museum, on Monday signed an MoU to set up the conservation lab and to increase mutual cooperation in art and heritage conservation between the two museums.

“The purpose of the MoU is to facilitate cooperation and enhance academic cooperation between the National Museum, Delhi and the Bihar Museum, Patna,” Ranbeer Singh Rajput, the additional director (In-charge) of the Bihar Museum, said.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the Bihar government has made a provision of Rs two crore for setting up the conservation lab in its budget for FY 2022-23. “If required, we will make a request for more money from the state government,” he said, adding the lab would be developed in the next one year.

Singh further said the Bihar Museum had sent a request letter to Ms Pandeya for setting up its conservation lab. “In the wake of that request letter, Ms Pandeya and Dr Satish Pandey, head of the art conservation, National Museum Institute, on Monday arrived at the Bihar Museum. After a healthy discussion between the officials of the two museums, the MoU was signed at the office of the Bihar Museum,” Singh told media persons.

The officials of the National Museum later visited different galleries of the Bihar Museum.
