Bihar: Man shoots cousin after latter protests over wife being touched inappropriately

PATNA: In a shocking incident, a man was shot dead for allegedly protesting against the incident of his wife being touched inappropriately by a cousin in Nalanda.

The killing took place at Gordhawa village under Deepnagar police station area at around 10pm on Tuesday.

The slain person has been identified as Kailash Yadav alias Kailu Yadav aged around 40 years. Police said he was a farmer by profession.

Deepnagar police station SHO Mohammad Mushtaque said Kailash’s cousin Pramod Yadav, who is also aged around 40 years, had reached Kailash's residence in the afternoon on Tuesday.

“Kailash was not at home that time but his wife was present. She has alleged that Pramod inappropriately touched her back while cracking some joke which she protested immediately,” he said.

Mushtaque said that after Kailash returned home in the night, his wife narrated to him whatever incident took place earlier in the day.

“Infuriated, Kailash along with around half a dozen relatives reached at Pramod’s residence who also lives in the neighbourhood and asked him why he had touched his wife inappropriately,” he said.

SHO said that the situation soon escalated to heated arguments after which stone pelting took place from both sides.

“Amid this, Pramod pulled out a country-made pistol and opened fire targeting Kailash. He sustained bullet injury in chest resulting in his immediate death at the spot,” he said.

Nalanda Sadar SDPO Shibli Nomani said that two empty cartridges and a bike were recovered from the spot.

“Kailash's wife has made six persons including Pramod as named accused in FIR for killing her husband. All of them are evading arrest. Raids were conducted at their residences in the village at around midnight but none were found,” he said.

Nomani said police investigations are on to ascertain if there had been any dispute or tension amid both the families in the past which suddenly resulted in such a violence on large scale.

“Bricks and stones were lying scattered at the spot. Scuffle had also taken place amid both sides after which at least four rounds were fired by Pramod. Two empty cartridges of 8mm were recovered from the spot,” SDPO said.

Nomani said neither Pramod nor Kailu had any criminal antecedents. He said that Kailash’s body has been handed over to family members after post-mortem and raids were going on to arrest all accused persons.
