PATNA: A man was lynched on the suspicion of cattle theft around 3 am in Chakabhi village under Bibhutipur police station area in Samastipur district on Monday.
The man was identified as Mohammad Mustaqeem, 40, from village Egg in Begusarai, SHO Chandrakant Gauri said.
He said Mustaqeem had earlier been accused in a theft case. The SHO said said Mustaqeem, along with others, had gone there allegedly to steal oxen and was caught by the villagers and thrashed.
"Later, he died. The investigation is on," he added. The SHO said it was not clear how many persons were with the deceased. "We got to know about the incident from the panchayat mukhiya around 5am. Villagers said four persons had come to steal oxen and three of them managed to escape," said Gauri, adding the body had been sent to Sadar hospital for autopsy.
On getting information, his family members reached Chakabhi, about 60km from Egg, and said he was into cattle trade. His wife, Khushbo Khatoon, lodged an FIR.
In December last, a 45-year-old Mahendra Paswan was lynched under the same Bibhutipur police station area on suspicion of theft.
