Bihar: Man kills pregnant wife for dowry in Nalanda district

BIHARSHARIF: An inebriated man allegedly hacked to death his pregnant wife (21) after she refused to give him money for gambling at Samasti village under Deepnagar police station in Nalanda district on Tuesday night.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Rukmani Devi, was six-month pregnant. Her husband Suraj Paswan and his relatives fled from the village soon after the seriously injured woman was taken to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. This was the third dowry related death in Nalanda in less than a month.

The woman’s relatives alleged that she was often tortured by her husband and his family members for not getting a motorcycle and a gold chain as dowry. The deceased was a native of Pinjde village under Barbigha police station in Sheikhpura district, who was married to Suraj, a year ago, they said.

Deepnagar police station SHO Mushtaq Ahmad said the relatives of the deceased have lodged an FIR accusing her husband and his family members for killing her for dowry. The body was handed over to them after the post-mortem.
