Bihar: Jilted lover throws acid on 18-year-old girl in Bhojpur

ARA: A jilted lover allegedly threw acid on an 18-year-old girl, an Intermediate student, at Ganghar village under the Mufassil police station area in Bhojpur district on Sunday.

The girl’s eight-year-old cousin, who was sleeping beside her, also sustained minor burn injuries in the acid attack. Both of them were undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital here.

The incident occurred around 1.30am on Sunday when the girl was sleeping on the rooftop of her house with other family members, police said. The accused has been identified as Amarjeet Kumar, a resident of Bada Basantpur village under the same police station.

The acid attack survivor, while talking to mediapersons at sadar hospital, said, “Amarjeet had been stalking me for a long time. He would force me to talk and hang out with him. On my refusal, he would threaten me. He had earlier threatened to burn my face with acid.”

Sadar SDPO Himanshu, who visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the girl, said, “Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, who is on the run after the incident. Two persons have been taken into custody and they are being interrogated. We will give adequate compensation to the survivor as per the provisions of the law.”

The accused had also sent two persons, said to be his relatives, to the sadar hospital to enquire about the condition of the girl.

When they were making a video of the hospitalised girl, her family members thrashed them and later handed them over to the police.
