PATNA: JD(U)’s Bihar unit on Monday asked its all district and town presidents to submit the list of members to the party’s state office latest by October 22 to facilitate the beginning of the organizational poll process for next three-year term (2022-25).
“Once the panchayat-wise, block-wise and district-wise lists of the JD(U) members are compiled and finalized, the party’s national election officer may begin the process of organizational polls in Bihar,” the party’s state general secretary (headquarters) Mrityunjay Kumar Singh said on Monday.
He said the JD(U)’s state unit has sent letters to all district and town unit presidents as well as district in-charges and the heads of the party’s cells, asking them to submit the panchayat-wise, block-wise and district-wise lists of the party’s members, along with the membership fees, to the state office by October 22. JD(U) collects Rs five per person as the membership fee.
The party’s membership drive was formally launched on September 4 this year by the Bihar CM and JD(U)’s de facto leader Nitish Kumar, soon after its national council meeting held at the party’s Karpoori Sabhagar in Patna.
“JD(U) has fixed a target of enrolling more than 60 lakh members in Bihar this year. The total number of members could be ascertained only after we get the members’ list from all districts,” Singh told TOI.
The party had enrolled a total of 42 lakh members in Bihar before the beginning of the organizational polls for the last three-year term (2019-2022), Singh said.
