Bihar: ‘Hooch’ claims 5 lives in Siwan, Champaran

PATNA: At least five persons died and one was undergoing treatment allegedly after consuming spurious liquor in Siwan and West Champaran districts in the last 24 hours, police sources said on Wednesday. Three persons lost their lives in Pakaliya panchayat under Daronda police station area in Siwan and two died in Khaptola village under Nautan police station area in West Champaran.

The deceased were identified as Awadh Kishore Manjhi (78), Noor Mian (40), son of Lal Mohammad Mian, and Kamlesh Manjhi (38), son of Laldhar Manjhi of Dhebar under Pakaliya panchayat in Siwan besides Ranjit Singh (35) of Khaptola village and Munna Singh of Barharia in Siwan. Munna had come to his in-laws’ house at Khaptola. The person admitted to Bettiah Government Medical College and Hospital (BMCH) was identified as Pawan Singh of Khaptola.

West Champaran SP Upendra Nath Verma said the initial investigation indicated that the two died after consuming spurious liquor. However, their family members and the one survivor denied it. The SP told TOI on Wednesday that the police got the information about one death on Tuesday evening.
