Bihar: Govt teacher shot dead in Buxar over land row

BUXAR: A 40-year-old government school teacher was shot dead at Jagdishpur village under Muffasil police station area in Buxar district on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Saroj Singh. "Land dispute may be the reason behind the killing," Buxar SP Neeraj Kumar Singh said.

Three bike-borne criminals shot Singh when he was going to his school at Bhatwaliya. Muffasil police station SHO Amit Kumar said the deceased was a resident of Jagdishpur. "The criminals intercepted him 200 metres away from his home and shot at him. He was rushed to Buxar Sadar hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet injuries," the SHO said.

Police sources said his elder brother Chitranjan Singh, an advocate, was also shot dead outside the Buxar court premises in 2019.

The broad daylight murder has caused outrage among the villagers as well as teachers of the area. Incidentally, local MP and Union minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, state labour minister Jibesh Kumar and Bihar assembly Speaker Vijay Sinha were in Buxar town at the time of the crime.

No arrest has been made so far in this connection.
